Jim Clark (March 4, 1936 – April 7, 1968) is regarded as one of the best drivers of all time and most naturally gifted.
Clark began his Formula 1 career with the Lotus team and drove for them between 1960 to 1968. In 1963 with the Lotus 25, Clark won seven out of ten races and won Lotus its first World Championship a feat he completed again in 1965 (in that year he also won the Indianapolis 500).
On April 7 1968 during a Formula Two race at the Hockenheim circuit, Jim Clark died when his car veered off the race course and crashed - a deflating rear tyre was the most likely cause. His death was a huge blow not just to the Lotus team but to all of motor racing.
When Clark died, fellow driver Chris Amon was quoted as saying, "If it could happen to him, what chance do the rest of us have?"
During his F1 career Clark won 25 races. He is buried in the village of Chirnside in Berwickshire.
