Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930

 

This approximately half life size bust of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is an edition of only 50 pieces, hand cast in resin bronze by the artist Steve Paterson. The statue retails at £275 which includes delivery to any UK address.

 

 

 

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland and is most noted for his stories featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes
A prolific writer, his other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction.
From 1876 to 1881, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and it was here he began writing short stories - his first published story appearring in Chambers Edinburgh Journal.
His first significant work was A Study in Scarlet which appeared in Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887 and was noted for the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes, who was reputedly modelled after his former university professor, Joseph Bell.
Conan Doyle was also a proloific political campaigner and fervent advocate of justice.
After the death of his wife Louisa in 1906, and the death of his son Kingsley Conan Doyle sank into a deep depression. He found solace in the Spiritualism movement and its alleged scientific proof of the afterlife
Conan Doyle died of a heart attack, aged 71 at his home in Crowburgh, East Sussex. The epitaph on his graveston reads:
