Bonnie Prince Charlie - The Young Pretender

At Glenfinnan near Loch Shiel Bonnie Prince Charlie first raised his fathers standard and during the next 14 months would battle his way into England fighting for his cause. He came remarkably close to achieving this aim - Charle's army advanced as far as Derby and forced the King to have a ship ready to take flight in case he managed the unthinkable and conquered London. Charlie's army had slightly over 5000 highlanders in comparison to the Kings army of some 30,000 men and as the highlanders grew weak through travel the tide turned against the prince. By April 1746 his army found themselves weak and tired of a campaign which had turned against them and retreated back to Scotland. It was on the 16th April 1746 at Culloden where Bonnie Prince Charlie found his troops hopelessly outnumbered and watched his army slaughtered at the hands of the Kings son (the duke of Cumberland). This was the last major land battle to be fought on British soil and marked the last great resistance from Scotland against the English throne.

This important work is a certified edition of only 175 pieces. It stands on a hardwood plinth at an impressive 22 inches high and is cast in resin-bronze and hand patinated by the artist using a black wax.
