Jock Stein
Jock Stein
was one of the most successful football managers Scotland has ever
produced.
As a player he was
signed by Glasgow Celtic in 1951 but due to an ankle injury his
career was prematurely ended.
Stein's first managerial
post was with struggling Dunfermline F.C. Facing near certain
relegation Dunfermline needed six wins out of six to avoid the
drop- a feat they achieved under Steins guidance.
Steins greatest moments
were to come when he was offered the Celtic managerial post. He
led Celtic to league victoy nine times in his first nine years
there and famously led them to European cup glory against Inter
Milan in Lisbon.
In 1978 he became
manager of the Scotland team where he restored credibility in
the side.
Scotland was stunned
when Stein died of a heart attack during an international match
against Wales in 1985.
