Shiel Arts is a company
recently formed by myself (Steve Paterson) in Dundee, Scotland.
The aim of the company is to produce a range of high quality figurative
sculptures, initially using the wealth of subject matter from
Scotland's history as source material for the range.
The company came about
after a disastrous flirtation with manual labour between the ages
of sixteen and twenty eight-the final straw happening when a piece
of much worked modelling wax fell into the rollers of a printing
press, destroying not only three weeks work, but the entire evening
edition of the local newspaper.A necessary parting of the ways
was agreed by both employee and employer-a divorce over which,
I'm sure, neither party has shed any tears.
Shiel Arts
also aims to provide a service to companies or societies (e.g.
clan societies, football or sporting clubs etc.) wishing to commission
a piece depicting a figurehead or icon from their organisation.
Although a one-off sculpture is a possibility production runs
of upwards of fifteen pieces can be supplied at a heavily discounted
rate for distribution, at profit, by the buyers.
Neither is Shiel Arts
concerned only with Scottish subject matter. From a few reasonable
reference pieces it is possible to model a quality work on just
about any subject. If you can sell 'em, I can make 'em!
I'm also always on
the lookout for reputable retail outlets interested in stocking
my work. Sales from high-end gift/craft shops have so far been
very encouraging and a widening of the sales network is actively
being sought.
